Howlin’ Wolf – Killing Floor lyrics

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I shoulda quit you, long time ago.

I shoulda quit you, baby, long time ago.

I shoulda quit you, and went on to Mexico.

If I hada followed, my first mind.

If I hada followed, my first mind.

Ida been gone, since my second time.

I shoulda went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me.

I shoulda went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me.

I was foolin with ya baby, I let ya put me on the killin floor.

Lord knows, I shoulda been gone.

Lord knows, I shoulda been gone.

And I wouldnt have been here, down on the killin floor.

Howlin’ Wolf – Killing Floor lyrics

“Killing floor” refers specifically to the noted Chicago gruesome slaughterhouse areas where gore reigned (and I dont mean Al) and where septic infections from cuts caused death. Read “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair. As legendary blues giant Howlin' Wolf intended it, it signifies entrapment in any such hellish environment, i.e. itself, war, misery, evil — it's been expressed in all these ways by the bands that covered Wolf, as this one does, moreso here emphasising the rocking melody. See my 99 iconic photos of Howlin' Wolf at www.howlingwolfphotos.com I was Wolf's great friend and photographer, as well as music student.
